Light absorption and scatter in the human lens.
نویسنده
چکیده
The light transmission of freshly excised normal human lenses has been measured atfive visible wavelengths. The lens profile has also been recorded and used to calculate light lossper unit pathlength of lens. This loss, although made up of absorption and scatter thecontributions of which cannot be quantified, may be regarded as due to a hypothetical absorbingpigment. The loss is directly proportional to pigment concentration and remains constantthroughout the central 7-8 mm of the lens and between the ages of 20 and 60. Because of thisconstancy, senile lenticular yellowing is attributed to increasing lens thickness. The visualimportance of this light loss in the lens is briefly considered.

Introduction: The study of the cause of death during the last few decades has shown that death due to infectious diseases has been declining and has been rising due to noninvasive diseases, especially cancers and accidents. Cancer is considered as one of the fatal diseases, and every year, more than 10.9 million people worldwide are diagnosed with the disease. Mater...
متن کاملCombining in vitro test methods for measuring light scatter in intraocular lenses
Intraocular lenses (IOLs) are designed for implantation for vision correction following cataract removal. The IOL typically replaces a cataractous natural lens that exhibits very high levels of light scattering. The amount of scattering is significantly reduced with an IOL, though it is rarely quantified and both the surface and the bulk of the intraocular lens may contribute to light scatter a...
متن کاملClinical method for measurement of light backscattering from the in vivo human lens.
A simple clinical method for measurement of light backscatter from defined regions of the lens in vivo is described. Light scattering was quantitated in 168 lenses of 85 "normal" subjects spanning 8 decades of life. The results indicate that light scatter from the anterior capsule does not change with age. The light scatter from the anterior cortex is quite significant even in young lenses and ...
